Four Aurora public libraries closed as of Dec. 31
Four of Aurora's seven public libraries closed at the end of 2009 because the city's 2010 budget only includes funding for three libraries. A ballot question defeated in the November election would have created a separate funding mechanism for the libraries via a Library General Improvement District.
As of Dec. 31, Mission Viejo, Hoffman Heights, Iliff Square and Chambers Plaza libraries have shut down permanently. Despite the reductions in staff and operations, the Aurora Public Library will continue to provide the best possible service to customers at the remaining three libraries.
Effective Jan. 1, 2010 the new library hours are as follows:
Central Library, 14949 E. Alameda Pkwy.- Monday through Thursday: 9 am - 9 pm
- Saturday: 10 am - 6 pm
- Sunday: 12:30 pm - 6 pm
- Friday: Closed
- Tuesday: 11 am - 7 pm
- Wednesday, Thursday & Saturday: 10 am - 6 pm
- Sunday, Monday & Friday: Closed
- Wednesday, Friday & Saturday: 10 am - 6 pm
- Thursday: 1 pm - 9 pm
- Sunday, Monday & Tuesday: Closed
All story times and computer classes and most other programming, except that which is funded entirely by the Friends of the Aurora Public Library and coordinated by community volunteers, will be cancelled indefinitely. Any programs that remain can be found on our list of events. Some meeting room spaces and amenities will be reduced or eliminated due to the closures. For more information, call 303-739-6640.
